My name is Caitlin Tyler-Richards. I am a graduate student at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, pursuing a PhD in African History with a minor in African Literature. Inspired by a personal love for African literature and a professional interest in international publishing, I study literary economies — the modes of and values associated with literary production, circulation and consumption — in Nigeria. I am also the project manager for for AfricaCartoons, an online encyclopedia of African political cartoonists launched by Professor Tejumola Olaniyan in 2009.
My research is heavily informed by an enthusiasm for both digital humanities and public history. This site represents an effort to make my work as intellectually and physically accessible as possible to a wide range of audiences. It also provides me the opportunity to connect (however crudely) my explorations into Nigeria’s past literary experiments with current innovations in African publishing.
